This is the thread to discuss everything regarding the nine survivals in GTA online. I've also included a poll where you can vote for your favourite survival.

Here are some of my thoughts on each survival.
Boneyard: A really popular one back in the day and the one I would be invited to probably the most (even more so than Processed). There are quite a variety of decent spots in which to camp but usually you'll find people sticking to the construction cabin thing near where you spawn in. In the early days (before my time) there was a spot you could use up on the roof of the big shed thing which apparently made it quite easy but that got patched long ago and that area is out of bounds now. I think this survival can be pretty easy if you are playing with one or two others who know what they are doing but it can be quite a challenge solo in my opinion.
Processed: Another really popular one and if playing with other people without doubt the easiest one I'd say. It has a good variety of different camping spot options and with two large undercover areas there is ample cover from the helicopters. Like with Boneyard even though it is very easy with others it can be quite hard I find doing it solo. There is also an occasional bug on this map where you can be totally in cover in one of the dumpsters but still get hit by the enemies. This was also the first survival I ever played so for me I guess you could say this is the one that initially got me hooked.
Sandy Survival: Much like with the previous two this one is also quite popular and I'd say one of the easier ones as well. It is perhaps the easiest to complete in freeaim also if you use a certain spot. This map provides three or four good camping spots overall, a couple of which have very good protection from the helicopters.
Railyard: Perhaps my least favourite of all the maps and quite difficult as well in my view. I don't go in for this sort of thing myself so have never tried it but there was a wall breach on this map at one time which did make it very easy as the enemies apparently couldn't hit you at all. Not sure if it is still present nowadays. I always use the same spot for this one but overall I don't think there are many good camping spots.
Sawmill Plant: I find this to be a really unpopular map and thus quite hard to get into with other players. I like it as I think it is underrated but one issue is that the enemies don't tend to come towards you as much as they do on the other maps so it tends to be a bit slow paced sometimes. One spot trumps all on this map so there is only one magic spot you are ever going to need. It is quite easy to complete in freeaim too from this particular spot.
Industrial Plant: Traditionally always a very hard map due to there only being two armour pickups on the map, one of which was up some ladders so kind of useless. These days though where we can store so much armour in our inventory that isn't a factor so it is easier now than it was. The helicopter waves tend to be fairly hard still on this map though.
Del Perro Pier: Like with Sawmill there is one magic spot on this map that makes it pretty easy. If not using this spot though it is probably one of the toughest. I don't like it too much as it is quite a busy map and I find it hard to pick out the enemies sometimes among the colourful scenery. I don't use the homing launcher much so this isn't an issue for me but if you do it can be hard to maintain a lock on for the helicopters due to all the scenery near the skyline getting in the way. This is also quite a buggy map if playing with other people (especially on last gen). For example with other people sometimes the last enemy will spawn under the pier meaning you have to go out of bounds to kill him. It has always been okay for me when playing solo though.
Maze Bank: This is perhaps my favourite survival and quite easy if you now the two best spots to use, maybe quite hard if you don't. I also find this one quite easy in freeaim though the helicopters always seem to give me more trouble on this map than they do on others. On this survival you don't really have to worry about the cars because due to the built up style of the map the cards can't actually get close to you.
Legion Square: This one is an absolute beast and without doubt the hardest one to complete. Going down into the tunnel is perhaps the easiest and safest way to do it but it can be VERY slow doing that so I try to reserve that for the last two waves. Back on the PS3 I used to be able to do this one solo without ever resorting to going down into the tunnel but I'm not as skilled in survivals now as I once was and don't seem to be able to do that anymore. These days I have to use the tunnel for the last two waves. I usually call a Merrywether backup helicopter while down there for wave ten to speed things up a bit.
I've done some videos for a few of the survivals where I discuss the best camping spots that I know of for each map so I'll post some of those up here later in the week when I get a chance in case they can be of help to someone. Some of them are pretty old now but still relevant seeing that survivals don't get updated.

Nice spot! Didn't realize it was there. I've usually used the metal tray near the NE end, but it usually requires that everyone be quick with taking out the 'copters.

I've always found the tunnel the place to use, but i the later waves, it really requires two cooperating players to watch the entrances in opposite directions in my experience. However, I've never completed any survival solo. I will be trying that snack trailer on the northeast side of the park though.

Regarding Sawmill thanks. It is quite easy from that spot either in auto aim or free aim.
About Legion Square I find playing solo that they more often than not only approach from one direction while down in the tunnel if you stand in the spot I was in for the video. So maybe if you get twenty enemies in total for a wave then you'll get seventeen or eighteen coming from the one direction and then only two from the other. I have heard that if you go down there for an early car wave (say wave 3) and destroy the vehicle down there before the wave ends then the burnt out wreck remains for the rest of the survival and you can use it as cover. Never felt the need for it myself with the enemies only coming from one way mainly when I play. There was a guy that posted a while back on the other forum though who did all the survivals solo with just pistols and he said it was invaluable to do that thing with the vehicle in the tunnel when playing with limitations as he was.

Well this could be quite useful pondnewt so I will say thanks.
I have not done a survival for a long time but I am planning to do some very soon so I shall make reference to this, they are the one part of GTA Online I have no videos of to date and my next project.

Well I have a question regarding solo play on survivals but how long on average would you all say it would take to complete all 10 waves using Pondnewt's videos as my guide for best camp spot etc.
Now that the PS4 has the longer video recording time it would appear it's finally possible for me to complete the last videos I wish to do for the game which is how to complete all 9 survivals solo as I don't think it should go over the 60 minutes recording time we have unless I'm really slow or pick the wrong spot right?

I would say on average maybe about 25-35 minutes for the easier ones and probably closer to 45 minutes or just over for the odd one or two where the enemies don't really come towards you as much like if you are down in the tunnel for the last few waves of Legion Square.

Just to put it out there since the bikers update there now seems to be big problems with survivals if playing with other people. They seem to be okay solo but with others the enemy spawn patterns are all messed up to the point of making it pretty much unplayable. For example the enemies won't come towards you properly anymore, sometimes the next batch just won't spawn in for ages, enemies frequently won't show up on the radar and they can spawn in really close to you now within a few feet which usually results in instant death. I realise some of these issues would occasionally happen before but now it is almost constantly wave after wave.
I've submitted a ticket to Rockstar about it in case they aren't aware of the situation.
