"In the land of the Haves and the Have-Nots, this Adversary Mode is your chance to engage in some aggressive social climbing. The Winners team is destined for success, the Losers team is doomed to fail, and there’s only one way to move between the two: ruthlessly murder a Winner and take their place."

I played this for the first time last night. Initially there were six of us involved so three winners and three losers but two people quit very early on. I think due to this fact it made the match a little unbalanced as essentially there seemed to be one winner and three losers so all the losers were ganging up on the winner. You always seem to be on the radar in this mode as well so in my game last night if you got the kill and became the winner yourself it was quite tough as you had three people coming at you at the same time who always knew where you were on the map. I managed to win it though so I came away from it quite pleased. Another thing to note is that when you are a loser and kill a winner to become a winner yourself there is a weird animation a bit like a cartoon explosion with $ symbols flying around. It really caught me by surprise when it happened to me the first time. My first thought was that someone had hit me with an RPG.

Isn't that the point of the match though? Like crabs in a pot, one tries to climb his way out, the other ones pull him back to the bottom.

Initially though before the two people left there were balanced teams of three losers and three winners so at that point all the losers weren't going after the same winner.

I only played II so far. Has potential, but was poorly executed. We need that stuff in the creator. Team-based weapon pickups and zones for deathmatches. That's it. 900 rounds for the Special Carbine and an Assault Shotgun were pretty stupid though. If they would add all the adversary mode stuff from their creator into our version, wow, nobody would play adversary modes then, but it would give us endless options.

I've played this a few more times now since my previous post and I must say I quite enjoy it. I've done map 1 several times and map 2 once. People seem to like to camp on rooftops quite a bit but that isn't a major problem unless they are a really good accurate shooter. I don't like it quite as much as inch by inch or in and out but it is definitely one of my favourite adversary modes. Good for racking up the kills.

I played one of these last night against one other randumb and quite enjoyed it but it was clear I was the better tactical player.
Very simple gameplay and fair play for freedom/tactics being able to be used by players for the first time and I like the fact the match can turn at any point, the first round I was looser for most of the match as we were just trading shots out in the open on the ground but then I went tactical and started hiding behind the various objects and got the winners result.
The second round my opponent also went tactical but it is easy to anticipate as Pondnewt says because you can see each other on the map at all times so I knew roughly which direction they were coming from.
All in all it's a worthwhile mode to play and probably a chance to improve my K/D ration slightly.

I got around to playing it for the first time, and found it fun. It seems a lot of players don't adjust tactics to fit the game mode, because when you become a winner, you probably want to take a more defensive posture, making your kills and avoid getting killed, while losers should go on the I-don't-give-a-fuck rampage and kill a winner no matter what the cost. It seems less sophisticated players always play the later strategy no matter if they are a winner or a loser, which doesn't help them win the match.

A little bit of video from playing the 3rd and final round of Trading Places III in a one-on-one match.
I got a hold of the Assualt Shotgun, although this loser was getting the better of me in the first two rounds KDR-wise, he turned into a big giant wussy and flew away, not even staying to get paid.

Having played all of these maps now the construction site one in the video above is my favourite. The worst one in my opinion is number five which is a very busy map with lots of useless junk thrown around in it which isn't much good for cover. The corners of the farm thing in this map aren't very good for taking cover/camping either as too much foliage gets in your way when trying to line up a shot.

So I finally figured out that the on-purpose unbalanced game mechanic in this mode is that Winners get better weapons pickups than the losers, such as the Assault Shotgun.
Now I know that some think every adversarial match should be perfectly fair, but because of the game mechanics, it really requires a difference in strategy depending which team you are on. This game isn't about KDR, it's about winning. If a winner is owning you with an assault shotgun from a camping spot, then you need to keep going at them like a desperate loser until they run out of ammo. Then kill them and take their spot. It's about winning the match, not padding your KDR. You girlfriend is probably not going to be impressed with your KDR ratio.

That's a good way of putting the point across, I never noticed the difference in weapons myself but then I have only done this mode once.
I am really starting to appreciate some of the smaller points of these modes but the difficult is finding some decent players, I never host and only ever join an actual invite (not one Martin sends) because usually those are the serious players who want to play it properly.
